A.C.E Kicks Off Their Under Cover Tour in Chicago
Five member Korean group A.C.E travels ten cities in the United Sates for their Under Cover: Area U.S. Tour.
Chicago kicks off the tour on the first of December at Park West. The groups fans (Choice) wait in line for hours, even when the rain soaks their clothes, for the doors to open.
Choices began chanting for the staff to let them inside after the delay of almost thirty minutes past the initial entry time. Because of the late door opening, the concert also got pushed back almost as long.
Jun, Wow, Chan, Donghun and Byeongkwan step onto the stage wearing vibrant red uniforms. After a short intro dance the group goes straight into their songs "Under Cover" and "Do it Like Me." With the upbeat notes, the concert starts strong.
"Long time, no see" Jun comments following their opening songs. They introduce themselves as a group before speaking one by one. Byeongkwan yells "Let's get this bread!" during his personal introduction which causes fans to laugh as he tweeted the same words minutes before going on stage.
A.C.E wanted to see what section of the crowd is the loudest to the members split into three groups: Chan and Donghun on the right, Jun by himself in the center, and the left side having Byeongkwan and Wow. The latter wins the contest being so loud that Chan dramatically falls to the floor and the others with surprised looks on their faces.
"Take Me Higher" and "Dessert" are the next two songs that the group performs. Both are no strangers to Chicago Choice as they sing along to the best of their ability.
Confusion happened when fans are asked what the names of the songs that were just sing called. The translator backstage made it sound like they wanted to know the very first song which the crowd correctly responded with "Under Cover." However, the quintet was asking for "Take Me Higher," the first song after their last talk. Some fans caught on and could answer what song was after that while others still had trouble understanding which song they were talking about.
Everyone in the venue laughs it off and moves on. Three of the members walk backstage leaving Wow and Byeongkwan to perform their special stage. The two wander to the back and pick up and put on cowboy hats. With a yee-haw from Byeongkwan they catch fans off guard by covering "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X.
The units trade places and Chan, Donghun and Jun cover Lewis Capaldi's song "Someone You Loved." Standing mics come out as Wow and Byeongkwan join the others to sing "So Sick."
After a short break A.C.E goes into their next song "Slow Dive" which fans had looked forward to seeing live. Wow and Jun keep the momentum going by performing "Black and Blue" which got accompanied by intense dancing.
Christmas came early to Chicago as the group took turns doing a medley of Christmas songs. Byeongkwan started with "Mistletoe" followed by Donghun with "Winter Wonderland," "Last Christmas" by Jun, the youngest Chan sings "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" and ending with "Jingle Bell" from Wow. Each member wore a festive headband except for Wow who dressed up as Santa Claus, beard and all.
During Wow's song, he throws candy into the crowd from his bag while others chose to place their mic in front of specific fans to have them sing a line. The five reunite for one more holiday song "All I Want for Christmas." More candy is chucked by all the members as Choices sing along.
Sugar wasn't needed to keep the energy up. The next songs "Br. Bass" and "Holiday" had the audience pumped and dancing in their spots.
Once the songs ended, the group leave the stage. The lights go down and a short story about a cactus is told over the speakers. Throughout the segment, multiple people tried their best to hold back tears, some more successful then others.
The five young men return wearing white and black outfits. Fans scream in delight as "Callin" starts and A.C.E gives it everything they have with their complex choreography and vocals. Despite Choices needing to catch their breaths, they don't get a break as the group goes straight into their newest title track "Savage." The song was one of, if not the loudest song from the fans.
As the end of the concert approached, it became time for the members to give their final individual thoughts and goodbyes. Chan went first and admitted that it was worth coming back to Chicago and the fans were the reason why. "Your eyes, they shine like stars when we perform" the youngest commented. "Please continue to support us with your bright, twinkly, starry eyes."
Donghun brings up the promise they made to fans last year in Chicago that the group would return better than before. After seeing how happy everyone in the audience was, he felt like they officially fulfilled that promise. "Once again it was a blessing to come see all of you in Chicago and I think that this tour is off to an amazing start."
Before Jun could start his speech, Choices began chanting 'we love you' which caused all of them to smile. "It's honestly such a blessing to spend out time with you, Choice" the leader said. "Being a part of A.C.E, meeting you Choice is the best part of what we do so please continue to support us in the future."
Because their original promise came true, Byeongkwan decided to make another one. "We'll come back again with more songs and put on an even better performance for you guys," he promises. "We'll finish our tour strong, promote well and see you guys again."
Last but not least Wow gave his thoughts. He admitted that they were worried about coming back to America and finding out their international fans forgot about them. After hearing all of the yells from the crowd stating they'll never forget A.C.E he says, "Not only have you eased our worries but you've shown that you love us even more."
Tears were in full force during the song Choices picked, "Easier" by 5 Seconds of Summer and their own song "5tar." Just about the whole entire crowd were either choking up or crying. A couple of the singer's eyes got watery but held the tears back.
All five of them leave the stage, but only for a handful of minutes as they planned an encore stage. They perform their debut song "Cactus" to start off followed by "If You Heard."
Before the last song Chan thanks everyone for attending their concert and those who used MyMusicTaste to bring them back to the United States. He remind fans that if they want A.C.E to return to Chicago again and again to make for their city.
The group sings "Holiday" once again for their last song of the night. Instead of doing the choreography all five of them wander around on the stage interacting with each other and the fans. After the song ends, A.C.E takes multiple pictures with the crowd before saying goodbye and leaving the stage.
Even though the concert was over, the activities didn't end. All ticket holders got to participate in the high-touch to meet the group and say a few words to them. The general audience went first followed by VIP. The higher tear also received a limited edition set of A.C.E photo cards. Chan who stood first in line gave Choices the package and held their hand before going to the others.
Outside the venue, everyone talked to each other about the amazing concert they just experienced. Many wished that they could start they day all over again and wait in the cold to relive the night.
