Dreamcatcher Creates Sweet Dreams at Concord Music Hall
Girl group Dreamcatcher visits Concord Music Hall in Chicago on December 8 for their Invitation from Nightmare City Tour. Only six of the seven members traveled to the United States as Handong could not take part due to conflicting schedules back in South Korea.
Red and yellow glow sticks start appearing as the opening video plays on the big screen. The colored lights increase with SuA, Siyeon, JiU, Yoohyeon, Gahyeon and Dami walk onto the stage. "Fly High" and their debut song "Chase Me" are preformed to kick off the show. The fans (InSomnia) instantly match the vibe that the songs provided.
After greeting the crowd as a whole unit, each member introduces themselves one by one. Instead of saying their own names, they got InSomnia to yell all six names. Even though everyone attending knew who was who in Dreamcatcher, the group couldn't hide their presently surprised faces.
With it being the group's first time in the windy city, many of them were feeling nervous. SuA admitted to being nervous prior to the show but fans chased it away. "I think because of the energy InSomnias show, I'm really excited and hyped."
"As Dreamcatcher, we will like our performances to be like a sweet dream to all the InSomnia here" Gahyeon says leading into the next part of the concert. Fans were delighted to hear B-sides "Trust Me," "And There Was No One Left" and "Wonderland" in a row. Despite all three songs not being title tracks it doesn't stop anyone from singing along.
While catching their breaths they bring up things that are unique to Chicago such as the deep-dish pizza, the Chicago Bulls, architecture and even how the city lives up to its well-known nickname. "Insomnia, what if you blow away?" JiU jokes referring to the extreme wind the surrounding days. SuA mentions that she didn't eat pizza with the others because she can't eat cheese and became excited to know that she wasn't the only one in the room who couldn't "My friends!"
Speaking of cheesy, JiU wasted no time to use one of her many pickup lines of the night on the fans while talking about the lights and scenery. "I thought the Chicago city lights were beautiful but the InSomnia fans here are more beautiful." Majority of the group cringed and called her out on being too cheesy and the crowd couldn't stop laughing.
The group splits into two as only JiU, Yoohyeon and SuA remain on the stage. The three ladies before their own dance cover of "Taki Taki" by DJ Snake. Self-confidence overflowed as intimate and sexy dance moves were perfectly executed. The audience's screams fulled the ladies' actions which made them perform harder.
Without giving anyone a chance to recover Dreamcatcher reunites as one for their songs "What" and "Goodnight." The heavy bass and guitars supporting their vocals blast through the speakers and shakes the floor. InSomnias jumped and danced so much that it helped the shaking without knowing or caring. All that mattered in that moment was having a good time.
Prior to the show all attendees received a raffle ticket matching the ticket level they purchased. Each member took turns announcing the prize winners. Those whose numbers were draw got to choose between two options; a signed American flag and red handkerchief set that were wore during the previous two songs, or a signed limited edition Over the Sky album. Even though fans were disappointed for not winning themselves it didn't stop them from being happy for those who did win.
Taking a short break from their own songs, the group forms sub-units to perform special stages. First to go are SuA and Yoohyeon who cover "7 Rings" by Ariana Grande. The vibe from "Taki Taki" carries over with their dancing and stage presence.
Siyeon took to the stage alone with the only solo performance of the night. With her powerful vocals she wows the crowd singing EXO's song "Overdose." The first time Siyeon covered the song happened back when she competed on the singing survival show V-1. She stays at her mic stand until halfway through the song before going closer to fans and having them sing once in a while.
Last but not least were Dami, JiU and Gahyeon with Yoohyeon joining to show off their cute side. They cover fellow girl group Twice and their song "TT," set choreography included. Right after the chorus ends the music changes to "Bad Boy" by Red Velvet which brings out a more mature side.
Once the unit stages end Dreamcatcher becomes one again. Fan favorites "You and I" and "Piri" got the few people in the crowd who weren't dancing to start moving. The fan chants during "Piri" were so loud that the group stopped singing and let InSomnias take over certain parts in the song.
While talking about Siyeon's solo stage, Gahyeon comments how her favorite part was when Siyeon pulls the mic off of its stand. With Yoohyeon's help pretending to be the mic stand Gahyeon does an over the top reenactment that makes everyone in the venue laugh. The other five follow her lead and do their own extra version of what happened.
The reenacting trend continues as the girls talk about the "7 Rings" cover. After bringing up the sexy dance moves the duo did everyone takes turns do it. However, Dami and Gahyeon were strongly against doing it and tried hiding on the opposite side of the stage. In the end both of them get pulled into dancing but Dami backs out last second leaving Gahyeon by herself without knowing until afterwards.
Dreamcatcher wanted to listen to clips from their newest mini album, Raid of Dream with InSomnias. Following the instrumental "Intro: Raid of Dreams" were the songs; "Deja Vu," "The Curse of the Spider," "Silent Night," "Polaris" and the instrumental for "Deja Vu." During each one fans sang along while dancing around with so much energy.
The six on stage couldn't help but bounce up and down, grinning ear to ear. The audience continued to sing even when only the instrumental remained. Right before the chorus the song cuts off, but Dreamcatcher encourages everyone to keep going acapella and they do word for word until the end. Siyeon tells InSomnias that her and the others are great full that fans sing the Korean lyrics. "We're always surprised and impressed," Yoohyeon adds.
Before going into their next song "Polaris" fans are taught a simple dance using their right hand for the chorus. Once the crowd is comfortable the start singing. The slower song and is replaced with the super upbeat and popular track "Deja Vu" that causes people to go crazy.
An InSomina brought a large cardboard cutout of Handong so she could attend in spirit. SuA asks if she could have it on stage and the fan willing gave it to her. Dreamcatcher pretends that the cutout is their actual band mate and started questioning it and SuA held the mic to its mouth while 'Handong' answered.
The welcoming atmosphere Chicago fans created the feeling that the group met everyone before despite it being their first visit. Because of this, SuA promises on their behalf to return. "When we come back, we'll be sure that we come back as all seven members," she says. Each member, even 'Handong,' said a few words and thanked the audience for attending.
With one more thank you they sing their next song "July 7th." Instead of dancing all of them wandered around the stage doing random acts. Once the song ends Dreamcatcher heads backstage to prepare for the encore. However, InSominas didn't want the show to end so they began chanting the group's name and would not stop until the six women returned five minutes later.
All of them return wearing their black and red tour shirts. Keeping the party like environment going were the songs "Wake Up" and "Mayday" that had everyone jumping up and down. Some fans were worried that the two tracks wouldn't be performed but got a present surprise.
To remember all the magnificent memories that were made, Dreamcatcher sits down on the stage to get a picture with the crowd. An InSomina brought the Illinois flag to the concert and the girls held it in front of them. With their picture taken, it was time for the final song of the night "Over the Sky." Because of it being the last song, both the group and the fans used the rest of their energy until the end. With once last bow and thank you they head backstage to officially end the show.
The dream doesn't yet quite yet for VIPs and VVIPs. Both groups get to meet Dreamcatcher for a high touch and a group photo. VVIPs also were personally handed limited edition photo cards by the members during the high touch. Each idol takes their time to make sure everyone there felt special and loved.
InSomina were sure to have sweet dreams afterwards thanks to Dreamcatcher filtering out the bad, which was exactly what the group wanted to accomplish.

Hi there! What an amazing recap of the show! I couldn't remember the songs in order and I really wanted to, so thank you!! Such a wonderful time; I was definitely on cloud nine for several days after and still smile when I think of it. I had vvip and the hi-touch and photo session were incredible. The girls were so friendly and professional and really seemed to be happy to meet each of us. Great energy, even after such a show! Thanks again for this wonderful post and I'd love to share it if possible. ❤️
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words! Dreamcatcher ended 2019 with a bang in my opinion. Feel free to share it if you'd like!
