The Avengers of Kpop Assemble at the United Center

SuperM has been one of the most talked about groups of 2019 and their We Are the Future Tour increased the excitement. Members Taemin, Kai, Baekhyun, Ten, Taeyong, Mark and Lucas come from their respected groups: SHINee, EXO, NCT 127, NCT U and WayV to join forces and be known as the avengers of kpop.

On November 13th the group performed at the United Center in Chicago. The venue opened the front doors early to let fans escape the freezing cold weather. While waiting for the main doors to open, everyone mingled with their friends and those around them.

Some used the free time as an opportunity to meet others who love the same pre-SuperM groups. A couple of Shawols (SHINee's fandom name) gathered as many fellow fans as they could who were free to take pictures together. They weren't the only one's with this idea. Everywhere you looked, fans were taking pictures, the most common pose was holding their light sticks together in a circle.

Once the main doors opened everyone either went straight to their seats or wandered around the building to kill time before the show. Many people took turns to get pictures with the large billboard of the seven members.

As it got closer to showtime, the rest of the fans hurried to their seats. To my left were EXO fans (EXO-L) and my right were NCT and WayV fans (NCTzen and WayZenNi) and all of them couldn't contain their excitement.

Like most concerts, this event started late but that didn't stops fans from betting excited once the lights went down and the background music got louder. A video played on the big screen showing an introduction for each member of SuperM.

The video ends and the group rises up on a platform at center stage. Light sticks of various color shine in the darkness and fans go crazy as the song I Can't Stand the Rain starts. Six of the members leave the stage leaving Taemin behind to perform his solo songs Danger and Goodbye. His sleek dance moves leaves fans in awe, some even in tears.

Nobody got a chance to recover from Taemin as he instantly handed off the baton to Taeyong. Taeyong appears almost out of nowhere wearing a full face mask. The sparkly mask lights up purple in the dark and goes straight into his unreleased song, GTA. Mark, Ten, Taemin and Baekhyun rejoin Taeyong on the stage to perform their song Super Car.

The song ends with them standing at the extended stage with Kai and Lucas. They introduce themselves as a whole group before speaking individually. Ten goes first by saying he's glad that fans were there and to enjoy the show. Baekhyun follows by telling everyone his name and the other members make a joke about how his name sounds like the word bacon in English. Instead of saying his name, Lucas does a few silly poses before telling fans to enjoy the show. Taemin, Taeyong and Kai each have fans scream before introducing themselves. Mark finishes by explaining how special it was for them being in Chicago.

Kai mentions that the group has good news for the fans. He tells the audience that SuperM got number one on Billboard music charts. "We think it's all due to fans and your support," Kai says.

When it was time for Ten to head backstage to prepare for his solo stage the others headed to the main stage to talk a little more to fans. Mark compares the weather to their previous stop in Dallas. "It's really really cold here," the rapper states. "We have so much respect for you guys how you live in such a cold climate." He and the others embrace the cold as a challenge, "We got to make this place the hottest place in Chicago right now."

Baekhyun admitted to the crowd that he was extremely jet lagged "So I don't even know what I'm saying right now," SuperM's leader joked. The singer continued on by saying how happy he was to see Chicago fans and how they weren't expecting so many people to show up for the concert.

The variety of light sticks all being changed to a pink or orange color in the audience amazes Taemin. "It's making me really realize that we're promoting as SuperM," he says. "You guys are pink! Pink!" Mark happily adds.

They wrap up the segment with Baekhyun telling fans to stay safe and hydrated to enjoy the night. Ten's stage is introduced and the other members walk backstage. The song Dream in a Dream didn't have as many lyrics but Ten gracefully danced his heart out instead. Fans sang with everything they had for his second song, New Heroes, the all English lyrics made it easier to follow along.

Lucas traded places with Ten to perform his only song of the night, Bass Go Boom. His unique charm didn't miss a beat and paired with the cute graphics on the screen behind him made his stage a fan favorite. Immediately following was Baekhyun who started off his portion of the concert with his song Betcha. The shorter version of the song gets accompanied by an ocean of blue and green lights from the crowd. The lights change to purple as the music slows down during UN Village.

The lights go dark for a moment but turn back on to show all seven members standing side by side. All of them harmonize together and the crowd can't help but yell in excitement. With a quick 'let's go' from Mark they go straight into their song, Dangerous Woman. None of them do any choreography. Instead they wander around every part of the stage to get closer to their fans.

Once again the seven members of SuperM split up to prepare for their special stages. Kai, Taeyong and Ten leave and the others decide to have some fun with the audience. Starting from the left side the remaining four got fans to use their light sticks to create a wave around the area. The wave made its way to the other side without an issue, but the group commented that everyone was too quiet. Fans tried again starting from the right side and yelled with all their might. Once the group approved of the crowds second attempt the show continued on with the song 2 Fast.

Fans knew what came next after the sub-unit song ended and turned their attention to the extended stage where Ten and Taeyong stood. The beat for the NCT U song, Baby Don't Stop plays and everyone in the audience went crazy. The nearly insane amount of people dancing, screaming or singing along at the top of their lungs proved that the duo's song was one of the most anticipated for the night.

Mark took the stage to spit fire during his solo performance. The rapper was full of confidence the whole time with the song Talk About which had fans feeding off that energy. Tag teaming with Mark was Kai who followed up with his own unreleased song, Confession. The red lighting paired with his provocative dance moves left the crowd speechless.

To gives their fan's hearts a break, a video gets played. Behind the scenes clips from the music video set to preparations for the tour gave viewers an inside look on the makings of SuperM. When the video ends, Taemin, Kai, Ten and Taeyong reappear on the extended stage. Their song No Manners is paired with a extra platform that looks like two ramps and the members take turns dancing and standing on it during the song. Some people in the crowd were yelling that the group had no manners for dancing in such a way that it played with their hearts.

Their next song, With You, got everyone in the United Center on their feet. Baekhyun, Lucas and Mark join the others to make SuperM whole again. In the middle of the song all seven members grab baskets full of signed plastic balls. All of them go around every part of the stage and throw the balls into the crowd as keepsakes from the concert.

It was time for the guys to say their goodbyes despite their fans protests. They went down the line so they could each say something to the audience.

Mark talked about how special the night was for him. "To even tour as a team like this itself is an horror but to have you guys involved with it and to have you guys witness it with us, it's a totally different experience," he said. "It was a great day, it was a great night, a great performance and I'll see you guys more often. Thank you guys!"

The concert was very enjoyable for Kai and he's happy that he got to make precious memories with the fans. He read many of the audience's minds on how the concert seemed to be short. "So you may feel like tonight was a little short," the rapper comments. "But I think that tonight was a precious memory so let's hold onto that memory until the next time we see each other."

This isn't Taeyong's first time in Chicago as his other group NCT 127 visited last May so he tells fans that he's happy to see everyone again. "Long time no see!" he jokes. Taeyong doesn't forget to thank the crowd for being there and reminds them to keep looking for SuperM before ending with another strong thank you.

Taemin starts off his speech by saying he's going to talk in Korean. Fans had zero complaints, in fact they were encouraging him to speak in his native language. Even though it's their first tour as SuperM so many people showed up for the concert. "I think we were able to shine brighter thanks to you guys," Taemin says with a smile. He ends his speech by telling everyone to look forward to greater performances from them in the future and thanks the crowd for being there.

Lucas decided to do a short but sweet message. He thanks fans for cheering them on with so much energy. "We will work even harder in the future," he promises. With a emotionally filled 'I love you' Lucas uses his arms to make a heart above his head and becomes shy.

The tour brought Ten to Chicago for the first time in his life. "You guys gave me a great experience tonight," Ten says. He admits that the concert has become a very memorable experience and he won't ever forget it. "Thank you guys so much! You were great tonight."

Last but not least is Baekhyun. He brings up how Kai mentioned earlier that the concert might have felt short to some, "but we hope that the next concerts became bigger and bigger with your help." The group's leader quiets down the crowd so he can give a special gift to them. The surprise is Baekhyun singing a verse from the song I Love You 3000 by Stephanie Poetri. "I love you! I love you 3000!"

The final song of the night was one that everyone had been waiting for. SuperM's debut song Jopping got the crowd jumping and popping while singing along. The energy from both the group and the fans grew to the highest of the night. The septet danced their choreography perfectly in sync with one another.

Once Jopping finished, the concert was officially ending. The group wanted to take a picture with the audience to help remember the magical night. Fans held up all of their light sticks and smiled big. The staff took a couple extra pictures to be on the safe side and everyone did different poses for each one.

All seven members stood up and gave their final bow to the crowd. As the platform holding the group started to slowly drop, fans began chanting SuperM until they were out of sight. The last thing anyone hears is "Keep yourselves warm!" being yelled by Mark.

The venue fills up with the sounds of people excitedly talking about what they just experienced as they put on their coats to head home with new memories in their hearts.
