Two Major Pop Culture Worlds Collide: Superheroes and K-Pop

The world is slowly becoming one with two popular fandoms morphing together. K-Pop group, SuperM, were given the nickname "The Avengers of K-Pop" before their debut last year for being made up of members from other groups, but nobody expected them to team up with Marvel's Avengers.

Right before the music video of the group's title track for Super One, "Monster & Infinity," premiered SuperM announced through their social media and exclusive texting chat that they will be collaborating with Marvel. Cartoon drawings of the seven members have been turned into limited edition merchandise. Some items even have them paired with characters from the Marvel Universe. All of the exclusive items can be bought through SuperM's official online store.

South Korea is known to have a large number of Avenger fans and even gave the cast a huge concert like event when they promoted, there were even light sticks dedicated for the superheroes. Scenes from Avengers: Age of Ultron were filmed in different locations in Korea, the most known is at the statue in the middle of the Digital Media City.

However, in The United States K-Pop is only starting to become more known to the general public. Usually Americans who are fans of Korean music are familiar Marvel and the superhero movies, but it wasn't the same vise versa until recently with more groups breaking into the American music market.

The Marvel X SuperM collaboration was unexpected but well received as it's becomes a hot topic within both fandoms.

With Korean culture gaining more popularity overseas it wouldn't be surprising to see more collaborations like this one happening in the near future.
